These tiles have been on a journey of discovery. Changed repeatedly, tenaciously and ferociously by Thomas. Seeking the inexpressible. Trying to represent the undefinable. This work-in-progress for a long time and of an unusual scale.
Atelier 2017
From the first aspiration to work-with-light is most found the journey lead to change meeting and several expeditions to the Equator in Africa that, in turn, inspired energetic engeneering that changed some natural phenomena into a creative construct as well as inspiring space. As fast as he built up ideas they had to be torn down.
The process always produces unexpected outcomes. For Thomas was the revision of every single of thousands of tiny tiles over several years not once but twice! Sixty-tiles-a-day month after month. Determined to find a way through talking a grand tour to return to where he left. Transformed. Changed in ways that are hard to explain. Better presented by the reward which he returned with.

The Way of Light became the Statues of Colour that then become the Telling. An invitation to the viewer to simply be presente.
The promise to provide a vehicle for reflection that wants to let go of the past and invites is to not worry (at least while in the space) about the future.

Neste contexto, o projeto "The Telling" de Thomas Schittek, pretende, harmoniza a arte moderna contemporânea que cria com os dedos da alma, juntando à magnificência sóbria do silêncio respeitoso que ecoa nesse venerando espaço planeado, com a explosão de luz e de cor da sua fé de convicto crente – na arte.

Este projeto surgiu na sequência do projeto "Way of Light" no Quénia (ver site thomasschittek.com), sob a influência das viagens para África, México e Portugal, onde tem o seu atelier e onde vive também, na encosta da Serra do Picoto.
Durante os últimos 10 anos o artista desenvolveu este projeto denominado por "The Telling". Os painéis das colunas foram pintados e repintados por três vezes até obterem o seu resultado final.

Trata se de uma instalação em azulejo composta por quatro colunas cilíndricas com diâmetros que variam entre 1.40 e 2.50 metros e altura entre 3.60 e 9.00 metros, perfazendo um total de 7208 peças de azulejos 15cm x 15cm pintados a mão. A orientação da implantação é determinada e tem um eixo Norte-Sul com duas colunas alinhadas neste eixo, uma coluna alinhada à Leste e a quarta coluna voltada a Oeste.

OBJECTIVOS
Implantar a obra em um Jardim, Local Público, um Lugar de Lazer ou um Parque, atraindo os visitantes com o pictorismo de uma linguagem simples, dominada por elementos naturalistas, em que as cores incandescentes e as formas são notas dominantes de um canto laudatório à vida.
